JDM of Washington wants every customer, including people with disabilities, to be able to browse our engines, transmissions and parts, place an order and get help from our team. This statement describes our accessibility goals, what we have done so far, what still needs work, and how to reach us if something on this website is not working for you.
1. Our Commitment
We believe a parts store should be usable by every mechanic, enthusiast and business owner, whether they use a mouse, a keyboard, a screen reader, voice control, screen magnification or other assistive technology. Accessibility is an ongoing effort for us, not a one-time project. We review the website as we add products and features, and we act on feedback from customers.
2. Our Standard
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard most widely referenced by U.S. courts and regulators for online accessibility. We are working toward this level across the site, but we do not claim full conformance at this time. Where we fall short, we want to know, and we will give you another way to complete your purchase.
3. Measures We Have Taken
- Our store runs on Shopify using a theme built with accessibility in mind, including semantic headings, landmark regions and visible keyboard focus.
- The main navigation, product pages, cart and checkout can be operated with a keyboard alone.
- Product and collection pages use descriptive headings and consistent layouts so screen reader users can move through them predictably.
- We add alternative text to product images that describes the part shown, and we mark decorative images so they are skipped by screen readers.
- Text and background colors on our policy and product pages are chosen to meet WCAG contrast requirements, and text can be resized to 200 percent without losing content.
- Form fields at checkout have visible labels and clear error messages.
- Links use descriptive wording rather than "click here".
- Our policy pages are written in plain English with short paragraphs and tables where data is easier to scan.
- We test new pages with keyboard navigation and automated accessibility checkers before publishing them.
- Staff who answer phones and emails are prepared to read product details, confirm fitment and complete orders for customers who cannot use the website.
4. Known Limitations
We are aware of the following issues and are working to address them. If you run into one, please use the alternatives in Section 7.
| Area | Issue | What we are doing |
|---|---|---|
| Older product photos | Some listings created before this statement have generic or missing alternative text | Reviewing and updating alt text listing by listing, starting with the most-viewed products |
| Product descriptions | Some descriptions use all-capital text or dense formatting that is harder to read | Reformatting descriptions as they are updated |
| Third-party apps and embeds | Review widgets, chat tools and payment buttons from other providers may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA | Choosing providers with accessibility commitments and reporting issues to them |
| PDF documents | Invoices or documents we email may not be tagged for screen readers | Providing the same information in plain text or by phone on request |
| Video content | Videos shared on product pages or social media may lack captions | Adding captions to new videos and describing content on request |
5. Assistive Technology
This website is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge) and common assistive technologies, including screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver, screen magnifiers, speech recognition software and switch devices. For the best experience, keep your browser and assistive software up to date. Some features may not work as expected in older browsers or in browsers with JavaScript disabled.
Helpful tips:
- Use the Tab key to move between links and buttons and Enter to activate them.
- Screen reader users can navigate by heading to jump between sections of a product page.
- Browser zoom (Ctrl or Cmd with the plus key) enlarges the entire page, including product photos.
6. How to Report a Problem
If any part of this website is difficult or impossible to use, or you need information in a different format, please tell us. Your feedback helps us fix issues for everyone.
- Email: jdmofwashington@gmail.com with the subject line "Accessibility feedback"
- Phone: 253-929-8444 during business hours
- Mail: JDM of Washington, 116 Clay Street NW Suite B-4, Auburn, WA 98001
Please include the page or product you were trying to use, what went wrong, and the browser and assistive technology you were using if you know them. We will respond within 2 business days, and we will work with you to get you the information or complete the order you need while we fix the underlying issue.
7. Alternative Ways to Order
You never have to complete a purchase through the website. We are happy to help you another way:
- By phone. Call 253-929-8444 during business hours. We can describe products, confirm fitment, give you a shipping quote and create a draft order. You will receive an invoice by email with a secure payment link, so you can pay without navigating the store.
- By email. Send the part you are looking for and your vehicle details to jdmofwashington@gmail.com and we will reply with options and an invoice.
- In person. Visit our Auburn warehouse at 116 Clay Street NW Suite B-4, Auburn, WA 98001, or our Kennewick location at 518 E 1st Ave, Kennewick, WA 99336 (509-221-1354). Our staff can walk you through available inventory and complete your purchase on site.
The same prices, policies and warranty apply no matter how you order. See our Payment Policy for accepted payment methods.
8. Legal Framework
We take our obligations under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires places of public accommodation to provide equal access to goods and services, and under the Washington Law Against Discrimination (RCW 49.60), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in places of public accommodation, seriously. Our physical locations in Auburn and Kennewick are also covered by these laws. If you need an accommodation to visit one of our locations, such as help loading a part or assistance in the warehouse, let us know in advance and we will arrange it.
9. Third-Party Content
Parts of this website rely on services from other companies, including Shopify's checkout, payment providers such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay, shipping calculators, social media feeds and any review or chat widgets. We do not control the code these providers deliver, and we cannot guarantee that it meets WCAG 2.1 AA. We choose providers that publish accessibility commitments and we report problems to them when we learn of them. If a third-party feature blocks you from completing a task, contact us and we will complete it for you by phone or email.
10. Ongoing Improvement
We will update this statement as we make progress and when we add new features to the website. We review it at least once a year. Suggestions from customers who use assistive technology are especially welcome; they tell us where to focus next.
