Ordering
How do I place an order?
Browse our collections, add the item to your cart and complete checkout on this website. For engines, transmissions and front clips, contact us first for a shipping or delivery quote so we can confirm freight before your order is finalized. You can also order by phone and we will email you a secure invoice to pay online.
Can I order over the phone?
Yes. Call 253-929-8444 during business hours. We will confirm the item, build a draft order with shipping and tax, and send you an invoice that you can pay with any card or wallet option we accept. Phone ordering is also available if you have trouble using this website; see our Accessibility Statement.
Is the item I see online actually in stock?
Our inventory changes daily as containers arrive from Japan and engines sell. Listings are updated regularly, but if you want a specific engine code or a particular transmission, call ahead and we will confirm what is on the shelf at Auburn or Kennewick before you pay.
Do you offer engine and transmission swap packages?
Yes. Our engine with transmission collection lists matched packages that came out of the same donor vehicle in Japan. If you need a combination that is not listed, contact us and we will tell you what we can put together.
Will I get an order confirmation?
You receive an automatic email as soon as your order is placed. This confirms we received it. Your order is accepted once the freight quote is confirmed, payment is verified and the item is being prepared. See our Payment Policy for details.
Payment
What payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay online, and major credit and debit cards in person at our Auburn warehouse. Checks are accepted only by prior arrangement. The full list is in our Payment Policy.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
No. We do not offer financing, layaway or buy-now-pay-later options. The full purchase price, including shipping and tax, is due at checkout or before pickup.
Can I pay when I pick up?
Yes. For local pickup orders you can pay online when you order or pay by card when you collect your item at the Auburn warehouse. Payment in full is required before the item leaves our lot.
Do you charge sales tax?
Washington sales tax is collected on all pickup orders and on orders delivered to addresses in Washington State. For other states, we collect sales tax where the law requires it. Resellers and repair shops can send us a valid reseller permit to buy for resale.
Is my card information safe?
Yes. All online payments are processed through Shopify's secure, PCI DSS compliant checkout. JDM of Washington never sees or stores your full card number. See our Privacy Policy for more.
Shipping & Delivery
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is quoted per order because engines and transmissions vary in weight and freight rates depend on the destination. Email or call us with the item and the full delivery address, and tell us whether it is a business with a dock or forklift or a residence. Details are in our Shipping Policy.
How long does shipping take?
Freight shipments within the continental United States typically arrive 7 to 14 days after leaving our warehouse. Orders usually ship within 1 to 3 business days after payment clears and the freight quote is accepted. Transit times are carrier estimates and are not guaranteed.
How are engines packaged for shipping?
Engines and transmissions are drained as required, strapped to a pallet or secured in a crate, and wrapped for protection. They ship by LTL freight. Smaller parts such as wheels and brakes ship by ground parcel service.
Can you deliver to my house?
Yes, but residential delivery costs more because the carrier needs a liftgate truck to lower the pallet to the ground. Delivery is curbside only, and someone must be present to receive and sign. Shipping to a repair shop or business with a forklift is usually cheaper and easier.
Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii or outside the United States?
Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and international destinations are available by quote only. International buyers are responsible for customs duties, import taxes and brokerage fees.
What should I do when my engine is delivered?
Inspect the item thoroughly before you sign, hand-turn the engine to confirm it is not seized, and write any damage on the delivery receipt or bill of lading before the driver leaves. Take photos and report damage to us within 48 hours so we can help you file a carrier claim. A clean signature means the item arrived in good condition, and damage claims cannot be made after that.
What if I refuse the delivery?
A refused delivery is treated as a return and is charged a 35% restocking fee plus the original and return freight, unless the refusal is due to carrier damage noted on the delivery receipt. See our Refund Policy.
Local Pickup
Where do I pick up my order?
Local pickup is free at our Auburn warehouse, 116 Clay Street NW Suite B-4, Auburn, WA 98001. We are open Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Please call ahead so we can have your item ready.
What should I bring to pick up an engine?
Bring your order confirmation, a photo ID, the card you paid with if you paid online, and a pickup truck, trailer or van that can safely carry a palletized engine. We load it with a forklift. Bring your own straps to secure the load.
Can I inspect the engine before I take it?
Yes, and we encourage it. Look the unit over and hand-turn it before you leave. Once the item has left our lot, it has been accepted and claims for physical damage or seized engines are no longer possible.
Can I pick up at the Kennewick location?
Our Kennewick location at 518 E 1st Ave, Kennewick, WA 99336 serves customers in Eastern Washington. Call 509-221-1354 before you order to confirm where your item is located and whether pickup there can be arranged.
Do you offer local delivery?
Yes. We deliver by our own vehicle to shops and homes in the greater Puget Sound area by quote. Contact us with your address for pricing.
Warranty
What does the warranty cover?
Our warranty covers the head and block (internal components) of the engine or transmission only. All electronic parts and all external parts such as sensors, alternators, starters, manifolds, turbo units, seals and gaskets are sold as is. Labor is not covered. Read the full terms in our Warranty Policy.
How long is the warranty?
Replacement engines and transmissions carry a 90-day warranty on the head and block. Performance swaps such as VTEC, turbocharged and supercharged engines carry a 30-60 day start-up warranty on the head and block. Rotary engines and transmissions are sold as is with no warranty. Warranty periods run from the date of purchase, or from the date of receipt for out-of-state customers.
Do I have to use a certified mechanic?
Yes. The engine or transmission must be installed by a certified mechanic within the warranty period, and required steps such as the oil system flush with a new oil pump, timing belt or chain overhaul and cooling system overhaul must be done. Installation by anyone else, or skipping these steps, voids the warranty.
Does the warranty cover modifications or turbo kits?
No. Any modification, including adding forced induction to a naturally aspirated engine, voids the warranty. Performance engines are sold for off-road use, and emissions compliance is not guaranteed.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Email us a written work order and photos from the certified mechanic who installed the unit, along with a copy of their certification. We will review the claim and decide whether to repair the part or have the engine returned complete for replacement. Shipping and labor are not covered. Full steps are in our Warranty Policy.
Returns & Cancellations
Can I return an engine or transmission?
Engines and transmissions can be returned for a warranty defect under the Warranty Policy, or when JDM of Washington approves a return within 10 days of receipt. Approved non-defect returns are charged a 35% restocking fee plus original and return freight. There are no exchanges on non-defective engines. See our Refund Policy.
Can I return wheels, body parts or interior pieces?
No. Used accessories and parts, including body parts, interior parts, wheels and suspension components, are sold as is and all sales are final.
Can I cancel my order?
Orders that have not shipped or been picked up can be cancelled. Online orders are charged a 2.90% cancellation fee to cover payment processing costs. Deposits are non-refundable. Once an order ships, it becomes a return and the restocking fee applies. See our Cancellation Policy.
How and when will I get my refund?
Approved refunds go back to the original payment method within 10 business days of our inspection of the returned item. Your bank may take a few more business days to post it. Shipping fees are not refunded.
What if JDM of Washington cancels my order?
If we cancel because an item is out of stock, there was a pricing error, or we cannot ship on time, you receive a full refund including any fee.
Engines & Transmissions
How many miles do your engines have?
Our engines are low-mileage units because vehicles in Japan are typically retired early under strict inspection rules, and the mileage for each unit is shown on its listing. Mileage is approximate and based on Japanese auction and export documentation, which we cannot independently certify. See our Disclaimer.
Are your engines tested?
Yes. Engines are compression tested as stated in the listing, and every engine is inspected and hand-turned 15 to 20 times before it leaves our warehouse so you can confirm it is not seized. We recommend you hand-turn and inspect the engine yourself on receipt before accepting it.
What comes with the engine?
Included parts vary by listing and by what the engine was pulled with in Japan. Many engines come as a long block with some accessories attached, but items such as the alternator, starter, manifolds, sensors and wiring harness may or may not be included. Check the listing and ask us before you order. Photos may be sample photos, as noted on the listing.
Will this engine fit my car?
Fitment is the buyer's responsibility. JDM engines can differ from their U.S. counterparts in sensors, wiring, emissions equipment and mounting points. Verify your VIN and engine code with your mechanic before ordering. We are happy to help answer questions, but we cannot guarantee compatibility with your specific vehicle.
Are performance engines street legal?
Performance engines such as VTEC, turbocharged and supercharged units are sold for off-road use. We do not guarantee smog or emissions compliance in any state. Washington ended emissions testing in 2020, but other states, especially California, have their own rules.
Why should I hand-turn the engine?
Hand-turning the crankshaft confirms that the engine is not seized and that the rotating assembly moves freely. We do this before shipping and we ask you to do it on receipt. Once you have accepted the engine, claims for a seized unit cannot be made.
Which makes do you carry?
We stock engines and transmissions for Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infiniti, Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Kia. Browse our engines and transmissions collections or call us for availability.
