JDM of Washington sells used engines, transmissions and parts imported from Japan. Used parts come with a history we cannot fully verify, and installing them involves judgment calls that only you and your mechanic can make. This Disclaimer explains the limits of the information on this website and what you are responsible for when you buy from us. It forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. Used Parts
Every engine, transmission, front clip, wheel and accessory we sell is a used item removed from a vehicle in Japan. Used parts show normal wear, cosmetic marks, surface rust, faded labels and signs of previous service. They may have been repaired or had components replaced before we received them. We inspect every engine and hand-turn it before it leaves our warehouse, and our listings state that engines are compression tested, but an inspection of a used part cannot reveal everything about its past. Please inspect your part on receipt, as explained in our Shipping Policy and Warranty Policy.
2. Mileage Is Approximate
Mileage figures in our listings are based on Japanese auction sheets and export documentation that accompany the donor vehicle. We pass this information on in good faith, but we cannot independently verify it, and odometer readings are not certified by us or by any U.S. authority. A mileage figure in a listing is an estimate of the donor vehicle's reading at the time of export, not a guarantee of the part's remaining service life. Terms such as "low mileage" describe the typical range for JDM imports and are not a promise of a specific number.
3. Photos May Be Sample Photos
Many of our listings are marked "Sample Photos". Where that note appears, the images show a representative engine or part of the same type, not the exact unit you will receive. The actual item may differ in appearance, attached components, cosmetic condition, casting marks and labels. If you need photos of the specific unit before ordering, contact us and we will do our best to provide them. Minor differences between a sample photo and the delivered part are not grounds for a return or claim.
4. Fitment Is Your Responsibility
Japanese-market engines and transmissions often differ from their U.S.-market counterparts in engine code, wiring harness, sensors, intake and exhaust layout, mounting points, transmission bell housing pattern and emissions equipment, even when the model name is the same. Before you order:
- Confirm the engine or transmission code on your vehicle and compare it to the code in the listing.
- Check your VIN and model year with a qualified mechanic.
- Ask us if anything in the listing is unclear. We will share what we know, but we cannot see your vehicle.
Fitment information, compatibility notes and vehicle lists on this website are provided for general guidance only. Ordering a part that does not fit your vehicle is not a defect, and such orders fall under the return terms in our Refund Policy.
5. Included Parts Vary
What comes attached to an engine or transmission varies from unit to unit. Some engines arrive with intake manifolds, alternators, power steering pumps, A/C compressors, sensors or wiring; others do not. Each listing describes what is included to the best of our knowledge, and only the items named in the listing are part of the sale. Accessories that happen to be attached are provided as-is and are not covered by any warranty. If a specific accessory matters for your build, confirm it with us before ordering.
6. Professional Installation Required
Engines and transmissions must be installed by a certified mechanic in a properly equipped shop. Installation requires replacing seals and gaskets, overhauling the timing, oil and cooling systems, and checking every fluid, connection and mount before the first start. Skipping these steps can destroy a good engine within minutes. Improper installation voids the warranty and is the single most common cause of failure we see. We do not provide installation instructions, and nothing on this website should be treated as a repair manual.
7. Emissions and Smog Compliance
We do not guarantee that any engine, transmission or part will pass an emissions test, smog check or safety inspection in your state. Washington State ended its vehicle emissions testing program in 2020, but many other states still test, and rules change. California has especially strict requirements: the California Air Resources Board (CARB) generally requires replacement engines to be the same year or newer and to carry the same or compatible emissions equipment, and JDM engines usually lack U.S. emissions certification. Check with your state's motor vehicle or environmental agency before buying. Compliance with federal, state and local emissions, noise and safety laws is entirely your responsibility.
8. Performance Engines Are for Off-Road Use
Performance engines, including VTEC, turbocharged and supercharged units, are sold for off-road, racing and competition use only. They may not be legal for use on public roads in your state, and they are not designed or represented to meet highway emissions standards. Modifying any engine for forced induction or increased output is done at your own risk and voids the warranty.
9. No Manufacturer Affiliation
JDM of Washington is an independent business. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, sponsored by or connected to Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infiniti, Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Kia or any other vehicle or parts manufacturer. Manufacturer names, model names, engine codes and logos appearing on this website are trademarks of their respective owners and are used solely to identify the vehicles and applications our parts fit. No manufacturer warranty applies to the products we sell.
10. Pricing and Typographical Errors
We work to keep our prices, descriptions and availability accurate, but errors happen. If a product is listed at an incorrect price or with incorrect information, we may refuse or cancel an order placed for that product, even after your payment has been accepted. If we cancel, we will refund you in full, including any fees, as described in our Cancellation Policy. Prices are in U.S. dollars and exclude shipping and applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. It is not mechanical, engineering, legal, regulatory or tax advice, and it does not replace the judgment of a qualified mechanic who has examined your vehicle. 14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, JDM of Washington is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from the purchase, installation or use of any product or from the use of this website, including lost profits, downtime, towing, labor, fluids, consequential engine or vehicle damage, or failed inspections. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the product in question. Products are covered only by the written warranty described in our Warranty Policy, and everything not covered by that warranty is sold as-is, with all faults. The full terms, including governing law and the limits on implied warranties, are in our Terms of Service. Some states do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
