This Privacy Policy explains how JDM of Washington collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit this website, place an order, contact us, or visit our Auburn location. We keep this policy in plain language so you can understand what we do with your information and the choices you have.
1. Scope
This policy applies to information we collect through this website (which runs on Shopify), by email, by phone, and in person at our location. It does not cover websites or services operated by other companies, including payment processors, shipping carriers and social media platforms, even when we link to them. Please review their privacy policies separately.
2. What We Collect
We collect only what we need to run a parts business: to list products, take orders, ship or hand over heavy freight, handle warranty claims and answer your questions.
| Category | Examples | Source | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identity and contact | Name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping address, business name | You, when you check out, create an account, request a quote or contact us | Processing orders, arranging freight, quotes, customer service |
| Order and transaction | Items purchased, engine or transmission codes, order totals, invoices, pickup records, warranty claims | You and our Shopify store | Fulfilling orders, warranty and return handling, tax and accounting records |
| Payment details | Payment method type, last four digits of a card, billing ZIP, transaction confirmation | Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay or the card networks | Collecting payment and preventing fraud. We never see or store full card numbers. |
| Vehicle and fitment details | Year, make, model, VIN or engine code you share with us | You, when you ask us to confirm fitment | Helping you choose the right part |
| Communications | Emails, phone notes, photos and work orders sent for a warranty claim | You | Answering questions, resolving claims, keeping a record of what was agreed |
| Device and usage | IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring site, approximate location, cookie identifiers | Collected automatically by Shopify and any analytics tools we use | Site security, performance, understanding how the store is used |
| Marketing preferences | Whether you opted in to email or text updates | You | Sending updates only if you asked for them |
We do not collect Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, biometric data, or information about your health, religion or ethnicity. Please do not send us this kind of information.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To process and deliver your order, including arranging freight carriers and local pickup.
- To confirm fitment, prepare quotes and respond to your questions.
- To handle warranty claims, returns and cancellations under our Warranty Policy and Refund Policy.
- To send order confirmations, shipping updates and other service messages.
- To send promotional emails or texts if you opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To keep the store secure, prevent fraud and detect abuse.
- To understand which products and pages are popular so we can improve the store.
- To meet tax, accounting and other legal obligations.
4. Cookies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are essential for the store to work (for example, keeping items in your cart and securing your checkout). Others help us measure traffic and, if we use them, support advertising. For a full list of the cookies we use and how to control them, see our Cookie Policy.
5. How We Share Information
We share personal information only with the parties below and only for the purposes described.
- Shopify. Our store, checkout, customer accounts and order records are hosted by Shopify Inc. Shopify processes your data on our behalf under its own privacy policy and data protection terms.
- Payment processors. Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and the card networks receive the details needed to authorize and complete your payment and to screen for fraud.
- Shipping and freight carriers. We give carriers your name, delivery address and phone number so they can deliver your order and schedule a liftgate or dock appointment.
- Analytics and advertising partners. Shopify analytics, and Google Analytics if we use it, receive device and usage data. If we use Meta Pixel or Google Ads, those partners may receive cookie identifiers and page activity to measure and personalize ads. See Section 6.
- Professional advisors. Accountants, attorneys and insurers when needed to run the business.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, property or safety of JDM of Washington, our customers or others.
- Business transfers. If the business is sold or merged, customer records may transfer to the new owner under the same protections.
6. We Do Not Sell Your Personal Information
JDM of Washington does not sell personal information for money and has not done so in the past 12 months. However, some state laws treat the use of advertising cookies and pixels that deliver targeted ads as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. If we use these tools, you can opt out at any time through our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. We honor these opt-outs for residents of every U.S. state.
7. How Long We Keep Information
| Type of information | Retention period | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Order, invoice and warranty records | 7 years from the transaction | Tax, accounting and dispute resolution requirements |
| Customer account details | Until you ask us to delete the account | Faster checkout and order history |
| Marketing contact details | Until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed | Sending updates you requested |
| Analytics data | 26 months | Understanding site usage trends |
| Customer service emails and notes | Up to 7 years when tied to an order; otherwise up to 2 years | Answering follow-up questions and claims |
When information is no longer needed we delete it or make it anonymous.
8. Security
Our store uses Shopify's secure hosting and encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Payment card data is handled entirely by PCI-compliant payment processors and never stored on our systems. We limit staff access to customer records to those who need it for their work. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
9. Children
This website is intended for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your Privacy Rights by State
Washington residents
JDM of Washington is a Washington business. Under the Washington My Health My Data Act, we state that we do not collect, share or sell consumer health data, and we do not use geofencing around any facility that provides health services. If you ever send us health-related information by mistake, we will delete it on request. Washington residents may also exercise the request rights described in Section 11.
California residents
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use and share, and receive a copy of it.
- Delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions such as records we must keep for tax purposes.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not use sensitive personal information for anything other than completing your order.
- Non-discrimination. We will not deny you service, charge a different price or provide a different level of service because you exercised your rights.
The categories of personal information we have collected in the past 12 months are those listed in Section 2, and the categories of recipients are those listed in Section 5. California's "Shine the Light" law (Civil Code Section 1798.83) lets California residents ask once per year whether we disclosed personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas and other states with privacy laws
If you live in a state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law, you may have the right to confirm whether we process your personal data, access it, correct it, delete it, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of targeted advertising, sale of personal data or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We do not engage in profiling of this kind. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision email with "Privacy appeal" in the subject line. We will respond to an appeal within 45 days. If we deny your appeal, we will tell you how to contact your state attorney general.
11. How to Submit a Request
You or your authorized agent can make a privacy request by:
- Email: jdmofwashington@gmail.com with the subject line "Privacy request"
- Phone: 253-929-8444 during business hours
- Mail: JDM of Washington, 116 Clay Street NW Suite B-4, Auburn, WA 98001
Tell us which right you want to exercise and the email address or phone number connected to your orders. To protect your information, we verify requests by matching the details you give us against our records, and we may ask you to confirm from the email address on file or to provide an order number. An authorized agent must provide written permission from you, and we may still contact you directly to confirm. We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you and may take up to 45 additional days. We do not charge for requests unless they are repetitive or clearly unfounded.
12. Global Privacy Control
If your browser or device sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising for that browser. You do not need to contact us separately. Because GPC works at the browser level, you will need to enable it on each browser and device you use.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our business or the law changes. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when the latest version took effect. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will post a notice on this website or email customers who have an account.
