Shipping policy

This Shipping Policy explains how JDM of Washington ships engines, transmissions, swap packages, front clips, wheels and other parts across the United States, how freight is quoted, what to do when your delivery arrives, and how local pickup and local delivery work from our Auburn, Washington warehouse. Please read it together with our Refund Policy and Warranty Policy, because what you do at delivery affects your rights under both.

2. Shipping Quotes

Because engines, transmissions and front clips vary in weight and size, and freight rates depend on the destination, we quote shipping for each order rather than charging a flat rate. Product listings that say "contact us for a shipping or delivery quote" require a quote before the order can be completed.

To get a quote, email jdmofwashington@gmail.com or call 253-929-8444 with the item or listing you want, the full delivery address, and whether the address is a business with a loading dock or forklift or a residence. Quotes are valid for 7 days and are based on the information you give us. If the address, delivery type or item changes, the quote may change too. Freight is charged at checkout, added to a draft order, or invoiced separately, depending on how the order is placed.

3. Freight Shipping for Engines and Transmissions

Engines, transmissions and engine-plus-transmission packages ship by less-than-truckload (LTL) freight. Each unit is drained of fluids as required by the carrier, strapped to a pallet or secured in a crate, and wrapped to protect it in transit. Front clips and nose cuts are crated or palletized based on their size. Wheels, brakes, interior and exterior parts that fit within parcel limits ship by ground parcel service.

Freight carriers are chosen by JDM of Washington based on the destination and the rate. If you prefer to arrange your own carrier, let us know when you order; once your carrier takes possession, any damage or loss is between you and that carrier.

4. Processing Time

Orders are normally prepared for shipment within 1 to 3 business days after payment has cleared, the freight quote has been accepted and any order verification is complete. Orders paid by check do not begin processing until the check has cleared. Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding U.S. federal holidays. During busy periods or when a carrier is slow to schedule a pickup, processing can take longer, and we will let you know if that happens.

5. Transit Time

Freight shipments within the continental United States typically arrive 7 to 14 days after they leave our warehouse. Parcel shipments usually arrive sooner. Transit times are estimates provided by the carriers and are not guaranteed. Weather, carrier capacity, terminal transfers and remote destinations can add time. We are not responsible for delays caused by the carrier, and a delay does not entitle you to a refund of shipping fees or to cancel an order that has already shipped.

6. Business Versus Residential Delivery

The delivery address you give us determines how the freight is handled and what it costs.

  • Commercial delivery. A repair shop, warehouse or other business with a loading dock or forklift and regular business hours. This is the least expensive option because the driver does not need special equipment to unload.
  • Residential delivery. A home, a farm, a business operating from a home, or any location without a dock or forklift. Residential deliveries require a truck with a liftgate so the driver can lower the pallet to the ground, and most carriers also charge a residential fee. The carrier will usually call to schedule a delivery window, and someone must be present to receive and sign for the shipment.

Please tell us honestly which type of address you are shipping to. If a carrier reclassifies an address as residential, or needs a liftgate that was not quoted, the carrier bills us the difference and we will bill it to you. If you have access to a shop or business that can receive freight, shipping there is often the cheapest and simplest option.

Freight delivery is curbside or to the dock only. The driver will not carry an engine into a garage, down a driveway or into a building, and will not help you unload it from the pallet.

7. Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and International Orders

Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are available by quote only and involve ocean or air freight with longer transit times. International shipping is also by quote only and is handled case by case. For international orders, you are the importer of record and are responsible for all customs duties, import taxes, brokerage fees and compliance with your country's import rules. We do not mark shipments as gifts or understate their value on customs forms.

8. Tracking Your Order

Once your order ships, we email you the carrier name and a tracking number or PRO number. Freight tracking is updated at each terminal and may be less frequent than parcel tracking. If your tracking has not updated in several days or the carrier has not called to schedule delivery within the expected window, contact us and we will follow up with the carrier on your behalf.

9. Delivery Inspection and Freight Damage

This is the most important section of this policy. Freight carriers only accept damage claims that are documented at the time of delivery, so what you do when the truck arrives determines whether damage can be covered.

Before you sign

  1. Inspect the pallet or crate and the item itself before the driver leaves. Remove the wrap if you need to. Drivers are required to allow a reasonable inspection.
  2. Look for broken or shifted pallets, torn wrap, cracked housings, bent brackets, damaged oil pans, missing parts and any sign the unit was dropped or tipped.
  3. Hand-turn the engine by the crankshaft bolt to confirm it rotates freely. Every engine is hand-turned 15 to 20 times before it leaves our warehouse so you can confirm it is not seized.
  4. If you see any damage, write a clear description of it on the carrier's delivery receipt or bill of lading before you sign, and have the driver sign as well. Writing "subject to inspection" is not enough; describe the damage.
  5. Take photos of the damage, the pallet, the shipping labels and the delivery receipt while the driver is still there.

After delivery

Report any damage to us within 48 hours of delivery by email at jdmofwashington@gmail.com with your order number, your photos and a copy of the signed delivery receipt. We will help you file a claim with the carrier. Claims for concealed damage found after delivery are much harder to win and are at the carrier's discretion, which is why a full inspection before signing matters.

A clean signature on the delivery receipt confirms that the shipment arrived in good condition. JDM of Washington is not responsible for damage that occurs during shipment, and once you have accepted delivery without noting damage, we cannot accept a claim for cracks, physical damage or a seized engine. See our Warranty Policy for how this affects warranty coverage.

10. Refused Deliveries

If you refuse a delivery for any reason other than carrier damage that is documented on the delivery receipt, the shipment is treated as a return. Refused orders are charged a 35% restocking fee plus the original and return freight, with no exceptions, as described in our Refund Policy. If a shipment cannot be delivered because the address was wrong, nobody was available, or the carrier could not reach you to schedule, the carrier may charge storage or redelivery fees, which will be added to your order.

11. Risk of Loss

Title to the item and the risk of loss or damage pass to you when the carrier delivers the shipment to the delivery address, when you or your agent pick the item up at our warehouse, or when your own carrier takes possession of it at our warehouse. Until that point, we are responsible for the item. After that point, the item is yours, and any loss, theft or damage is your responsibility or a matter for a carrier claim.

12. Local Pickup at Our Auburn Warehouse

Local pickup is free and is a great option if you are in the Puget Sound area. Pickup is available at:

JDM of Washington
116 Clay Street NW Suite B-4
Auburn, WA 98001
Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Sunday closed (Pacific Time)

Please call 253-929-8444 before you come so we can have your item ready and confirm it is at the Auburn location. When you arrive, bring:

  • your order confirmation and a government-issued photo ID,
  • the card used for the purchase, if you paid online, or your payment if you are paying in person, and
  • a pickup truck, trailer or van that can safely carry an engine on a pallet. We load it with a forklift, and you are responsible for securing the load with your own straps.

Inspect and hand-turn the engine before you leave. Once the item has left our lot, it has been accepted, and claims for physical damage or seized engines are no longer possible. Items not picked up within 14 days of being ready may be subject to storage fees or treated as cancelled under our Cancellation Policy. Washington sales tax applies to all pickup orders.

13. Local Delivery

We offer local delivery by our own vehicle to shops and homes in the greater Puget Sound area by quote. Local delivery is priced by distance and by what is required to unload at your location. Someone must be present to receive, inspect and sign for the item. The same inspection rules in Section 9 apply, and risk of loss passes to you on delivery. Contact us for a local delivery quote before you order.

14. Shipping Fees Are Non-Refundable

Shipping, freight, liftgate, residential and local delivery fees pay for services that are performed by carriers and cannot be recovered once the item ships. For this reason, shipping fees are non-refundable, including on approved returns, refused deliveries and warranty replacements. Return freight is the customer's responsibility unless we agree otherwise in writing.

15. Address Changes

If you need to change your shipping address, contact us as soon as possible. Address changes requested before an order ships can usually be made at no charge, although the freight quote may change. Once a freight shipment has left our warehouse, the carrier may refuse a reroute or may charge a reconsignment fee, which will be passed on to you. We are not responsible for shipments delivered to an incorrect address that you provided.
